Video: Audi TT RS Targa Tasmania Highlights

By Johan Laubscher

The Audi Centre Melbourne Audi TT RS was tipped as one of the front runners at the Targa Tasmania this year. The car, driven by Matt and Casey Close, had performed very well this year. With a string of good results they were very confident ahead of the premiere event in the Australian Targa Championship calendar.

They performed very well at the Targa Tasmania, despite technical problems which lost them time. They were up to a comfortable third overall when turbo related problems unfortunately ended their event.

Other Side Productions have been producing great video coverage of the Targa Championship. They have just released another new video featuring the TT RS at the 2013 Targa Tasmania. It is a great video, and the TT RS sounds brilliant with its five cylinder turbo engine

Audi A1 ready for French Rallycross

By Johan Laubscher

Racing Team Jagu is a French rallycross team who have been loyal to Audi for many years. The team competed in the French Rallycross Championship with a first generation Audi A3 until 2011. They sold their A3 to another competitor during 2012 as they were preparing a new machine for 2013.

Towards the end of 2012 Racing Team Jagu announced that they had acquired an Audi A1 which would be prepared for the 2013 French Rallycross Championship. The car’s development looked promising, as this smallest of Audi road cars was turned into a rallycross machine. More about the development can be read HERE.

The car looks great and has undergone a lot of testing ahead of the 2013 season. It will be driven by Yvonnick Jagu.

The French Rallycross Championship gets underway this coming weekend, with the “Rallycross des Ducs” event. Two Audis will be present at the season opener. It will be the debut for the Jagu Audi A1, which will compete in the Super 1600 class. The second Audi will be the ex-Jagu Audi A3 which is driven by Jimmy Terpereau in the Division 4 class.

Video: Audi R13 in the Spanish Hillclimb Championship

By Johan Laubscher

The Spanish Hillcimb Championship has been the scene for many Audi race cars in the last decade. The Audi A4 STW (Super Touring) has been a very popular choice of car amongst the competitors. For 2013 a very special Audi race car has been added to the series.

One of the long-time drivers, who has been competing with Audis in this series, is Jose Antonio Lopez-Fombona, competing with his Audi A4 STW since 2002. He is a multiple hillclimb champion and has been loyal to Audi A4 Touring cars for over a decade. For 2013 Fombona has decided to retire his older A4 STW, having sold it to another competitor. This decision does not mean the end for Fombona and his hillclimb racing with Audis. He has acquired an Audi R13, and will be competing with the car in Spain this year.

The Audi R13 is the 2007 Audi A4 DTM (B7) car, the same version which took Mattias Ekström to the 2007 DTM driver’s title. Fombona debuted his A4 DTM at the end of April and will continue to compete in the Spanish Hillclimb Championship this year. The car has a beautiful white, grey and orange livery. It is wonderful to see these older race cars still competing.

A number of YouTube videos featuring Fombona’s Audi A4 DTM, including an onboard video, have been embedded below.

Video: Walter Röhrl crashes an Audi Sport quattro S1 at Lavanttal Rallye

By Tarek Ramchani

Walter Röhrl is one of the greatest drivers, if not the greatest World Rally driver of all time. The legendary Audi driver won everything with the quattro cars, from World Rally Championship events and the Pikes Peak Hillclimb.

He crashed an Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 at the Lavanttal Rallye event last weekend, something very rare for the rally legend. Luckily the damage was minimal. Here is a video from our friends at MotorsportSpielberg on YouTube.

Video: Closer look at the Targa Audi TT RS

By Johan Laubscher

The Audi TT RS of Matt and Casey Close has become a formidable force in the Australian Targa Championship. These tarmac rally events always provide a great spectacle and the TT RS more than holds its own against a field of very potent competitors. The Close pairing have had a very good 2012-2013 season so far, as they are coming off a set of two consecutive second place finishes. This good speed and consistency puts them in a positive position ahead of the Targa Tasmania in April.

Other Side Productions have been producing great video coverage of the Targa Championship. They have just released another new video featuring a closer look at the TT RS and interviews with Matt Close. Enjoy, the sound from the five cylinder turbo engine sounds great on the Australian tarmac stages.

Another great Audi TT RS Targa performance

By Johan Laubscher

The Audi TT RS pairing of Matt and Casey Close achieved another sensational result in the Australian Targa Championship. They finished second overall for the second consecutive event. The latest event was the Targa Wrest Point and as per usual the TT RS team faced fierce competition from other high powered entries.

The Audi has proven to be a great package on the Australian stages, further enhanced by the new S-Tronic double clutch gearbox which was fitted before the previous round. We have included the event review videos below, which have been produced by Other Side Productions. Enjoy the sights and sounds from Targa.
