The European rally season has started. Austria hosted the season opener of the FIA European Rally Championship last weekend, the 29th International Jänner Rally. A very large entry list mixing new generation WRC and S1600 cars with older rally cars. Among the starters there were some Audis quattros and S2s.

The famous Rallye Legend event at San Marino celebrated its tenth edition this year. The 2012 event was held two weeks ago. A lot of legendary rally car racers took part, which included Audis of course. No less than eight quattro cars were there.

Our friend and rally enthusiast, Lawrence Clift, provided massive coverage from the San Marino meeting with some brilliant photos.

These beasts did not only compete in the FIA World Rally Championship but they also featured at the famous and demanding Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event in Colorado, USA. Here is a look back to one of the most challenging and fierce battles between two giants of the sport, the Audi S1 quattro and the Peugeot 205 T16.
